Russia Differences

There are several differences that I noticed between Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow) and the United States. Here are a few of them:
  • Their traffic light, much like the ones in England and Germany, signal differently than ours in the United States. They turn green, yellow, and then red like ours, but then turn red and yellow simultaneously to warn you that they are about to turn green.
  • You do not have a right of way as a pedestrian.

There are also several similarities that I noticed between St. Petersburg and other countries that I have traveled to. The reason for this is that Peter the Great wanted St. Petersburg to be more European; therefore, he traveled much of Europe and brought a lot of the cultural details back with him. Here are some examples:

  • They have many canals running through their streets, and this was modeled after Venice.
  • They have advertisement cylinders much like in Paris.
  • The architecture of many of the buildings resembles that of European architecture.
