Fun Facts About Germany

  • 81 million citizens
  • Angela Merkel (1959- ) has a doctorate in physics, and she has also been Germany’s Chancellor since 2005.
  • Germans have a very strong work ethic.
  • There are sixteen states in Germany (just like how the United States has states).
  • Three of the German states are city-states: Hamburg, Bremen, and Berlin.
  • It is the largest populated country in Europe!
  • It is about the size of Montana.
  • It has universal healthcare throughout the country.
  • They have a low fertility rate of 1.4 kids per woman, which is declining their population.
  • They are a Nato member.
  • Less than 1% of the country’s income is spent on the military, whereas we spend 1.5-2% and we are a much larger country!
  • They are the core of the European Union because they are making so much money.
  • They have the 4th largest economy in the world.
  • They are the 3rd largest exporter in the world.
  • Exports account for more than 1/3 of their output.
  • Prussia was the kingdom of Northern Germany .
  • This is a traditional German food that you will very often find with street vendors. It is called "dönner." It can either be beef, pork, or chicken. The vendors will scrape the meat off of a rotisserie and give you vegetables with sauce. Below, you will see mine, which contained chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and garlic sauce.
