My Final Trek Out

On my final day in Casablanca, I went out with Amy and Jeffrey. Our mission was to travel to the mosque, until we ran into my marine biology teacher, Dr. Rob Young. He advised us to go to the fish market down the road (which I am required to do for his class). It was not like any other fish market in the states! The fish were not on or in ice, they were laid in barrels or on the ground on a mat. There were fish heads and guts all over the floor! Did I mention that this market was outside? Birds and cats were circling the perimeter. There were many large baracudas, sharks, shrimp, salmon, tilapia, and even a ray! The policemen on duty when we walked in would not allow us to take any pictures inside.

After the fish market, we started walking toward the mosque. Dr. Young caught up with us, and we walked there together. When we got there, we saw that it was low tide, and decided to explore the tide pools. It was really cool to see many different sea urchins, sea cucumbers, and sea anemones.  The tide was coming in pretty fast, so we had to go back to the sidewalk after 45 minutes of exploring.

After this, we traveled to the mosque. Once we took pictures, we headed back and saw Rick’s Café, which was awesome! We then went to the medina to finish up on some last minute bowl shopping for our friends and family.
