Argentine Architecture

·         It is the second largest city in South America.

·         It is a city made up of distinct neighborhoods and districts. For example, someone will ask you, “Are you going to La Boca?”

·         The city grew from the central plaza, and the grid got farther out surrounding the plaza.

·         The fort was torn down in the mid 1800s to get ready for the Casa Rosada.

·         There are a number of gallerias, which were the precursor for shopping malls.

·         Baroque diagonals got introduced into the street plans, which introduced boulevards that mimicked those in Paris.

·         They have very wide streets with large trees in front of the tall buildings.

·         It has similar urban planning as Washington D.C.

·         They looked at Parisian architecture for their theaters.

·         A waterfront redevelopment that has been going on for the last twenty years.
